IEE are world leaders in the field of occupant detection based automotive safety technologies, and are now involved in the production of EL-illuminated smart switches and the MLI Security Camera. They offer a range of Occupant Detection (OD) systems, a Pedestrian Protection System, and a Child Seat Detector.

Occupant Classification Their occupant detection (OD) systems covers four levels. The first of these is occupant classification (OC), which categorizes a passenger by size, allowing situation-relevant airbag deployment.  The next level of OD is the Passenger Presence Detection (PPD) system which enables or disables the airbag depending on if there is a passenger in the seat. The third level of OD is the seat belt reminder (SBR) system which sounds an alarm if the passenger hasn't buckled up. The fourth and final level of OD is called Dynadis and is a dynamic occupant sensing system. It uses 3d cameras to track occupant movement within the vehicle.

Passenger Protection System The European Union issued a directive requiring that a first set of passive measures be applied to cars to protect passengers. IEE has developed the Pedestrian Protection System to be installed in the bumpers which may be used for this purpose.

Child Seat Presence and Orientation Detection Child Seat Presence and Orientation Detection is a system utilising the above PPD function plus electromagnetic coupling with a child seat in order to automatically control airbag deployment as required.
